Just one (1) day trip, students part 6 from communication engineering and computer engineering FKE UiTM Dungun visited Celcom Kijal on 8th Feb 2010 as early as 730am began the journey with three (3) escorts' lecturers; me, Ida and Aziz as a head+organizer. A lot of things we learnt. Wanna know what we had learnt? Suppose let the students explain. They have good in memorising, still young and energetic.
I left a study about wireless, satellite and fiber optic since I did my Master degree in 2006. I learnt microwave half-way, dropped at the half of the semester. I had already enough credit for graduating at that time. Even though my current research is about optical communication, but it is just a small part of optical receiver. When visited Celcom Kijal, seems I did a revision and also broadening a new knowledge and practical part. The full name of this Kijal Celcom is Kijal International Earth Station, Kemaman. It covers BTS (Base Tranceiver Station), Satellite, Fiber Optic and Microwave transmissions. I had attended Celcom BTS in Perda, Penang when I worked at UiTM Penang, but it does not cover as much as Celcom Kijal.
What's new for me is when the speaker told that we can dial 112 for emergency call even there is no coverage, but the handphone should have enough battery to make a call. I am not sure the frequency it is used (better I asked Mr Tengku Hashim, he can answer here and let my students know).
I didn't remember the speed to differentiate between broadband and GPRS/EDGE, but the speaker reminded me that :
For 2G (GSM900) operating at 900Mhz, the speed is 10kbps while 2.5G (GPRS) operating at 1800MHz the speed is between 64kbps to 144kbps. How about the speed of EDGE? I have to check my notes.
Broadband is more than 256kbps, which means 3G (UMTS) with speed up to 384kbps and 3.5G (HSDPA) up to 3.6Mbps are categorized under broadband. How about 4G (HSPA) speed? I have to find out. At this moment P1 is the one operator provided 4G services in Malaysia. It becomes Celcom competitor now. Thus, we have to support Celcom, so don't let KLCC/Petronas Twin Tower is being Maxis Twin Tower. Celcom is the only one company that belong to Malaysian. So, please support Celcom. (I knew this since I worked at UTHM and reminded again by a speaker).
